This training course is suitable for anyone who would like to more competently deal with difficult communications/ situations in the workplace.  FITAC tailors delivery to suit specific learning requirements and has delivered this training for a number of organisations including:

Security Companies,
Government Agencies,
Varying Grades of Public and Private Sector Workers who engage with the public.

It contains all the relevant & essential information included in competitor’s programs but has been designed to deliver more of a focus on understanding behaviors as a means of communication and de-escalation.

The course will also make participants aware of risk assessments and their role in keeping themselves safe in the workplace. It has been developed using research and evidence-based best practice, and is regularly reviewed by our training panel to ensure the most up to date information is provided.

This one day course (NMBI/CPD approved) aims to

Provide employees with the necessary skills to de-escalate situations and behaviors and prevent incidents from getting out of control.

Furnish employees with the communication, personal safety and well-being techniques necessary to appropriately interact who those who exhibit either verbal or physical aggression.

Overview of legislation and development of policies in relation to managing workplace violence and aggression.

Understanding the process that contributes to the development of a crisis (stages of escalating behavior).

Recognizing and assessing an escalation in behavior.

Risk assessment of the individual and the environment.

Staff communication- verbal/ non-verbal/ paraverbal and exploring the effects of our non-verbal behavior.

Responding to verbal aggression.

Techniques to de-escalate behavior,

Personal and professional impact of violence and aggression (staff concerns, support, and detachment).

Tips and techniques for ensuring professionalism and ensuring dignity and respect for service users/ public.

Exploring the reasons for behaviors– precipitating factors- What is the message behind the behavior?

Personal safety techniques to prevent injury to the staff member if behavior escalates to a physical level.

Post-crisis intervention (staff and service user support, reflecting, incident reporting, documentation, and learning).
